What do you do about cockroaches in the house?
I saw a small cockroach about a couple weeks ago and it took off when i tried to catch it. I really didnt think anything of it at the time until today my girlfriend said she woke up to a small one on her arm. She is freaking out and saying that i need to "bomb" the apartment (whatever that means). I guess its some term they use in pest-control. id like to think its no big deal but she thinks they will multiply like crazy. is there a simple remedy for this or are they going to take over my home? ps…i keep a very clean home just for the record.
The first thing you need to do is identify the species of roach… sounds stupid and technical but it is important.

Solutions:
German Roach – Get a pest control professional. You're doomed and will only spend more money fighting them yourself.
Smoky Brown Roach – Same as the German Roach.
Oriental Roach – Fix all the weatherstripping around windows and doors. These bugs come in from outside. Reduce water outside. Hire a professional if they become too bad. These don't normally infest the inside of a clean house.
American Roach – Same as Oriental Roach, except these roaches need a ton of water. Dry up any standing water and fix all leaks… even if it's just a slight drip. Remove any wet wood or plastic on ground.
Turkestan Roach – same as Oriental Roach. They're tough and they breed quickly. Either get a pest control professional or get used to seeing some once in a while. I've never seen these infest inside a HOME but I have seen them infest a RESTAURANT.
Other roaches like the Cuban, Field, Brown-banded and Tree are rare where I work, so I can't tell you much about them.
If you live in an apartment, the whole place is going to have to be treated, inside and outside, to solve the problem. If you're in a house, not a duplex, then you're in good shape.
Good luck to you – and realize that roaches don't get better overnight, but some can be cured 100%.
I would call a exterminator

It doesn't matter if you have a clean house or not. It could be from nasty neighbors especially if you live in an apt. Watever you do don't kill them with your foot because you can carry the eggs on the bottom and still have them in ur house. You'll be killing them for days with your foot. Try something that can get rid of their urine. Roaches trace the smell of raoches pee. That's how they get around. My best bet is to call an exterminator.

Either spary the house with stuff or turn it into a game. There are a lot of stuff you can buy at the store that will kill them. I use it all the time. Also, you can just turn it into a game. Turn the lights off, tap a quarter on the ground for a little bit and turn the lights on. Believe me, they will come out. That's there mating sound. Sound turn the lights on a have a broom in your hand and just start smashing. I am sure that you will see either none or just one. Since you said one got away, doing the quarter tapping will bring it out and you can kill it. Atleast it will get your mind off the one that you lost. You can also call a professional bug killer and they are pretty good too.

I was woken up by a roach also, it's gross, I had to take a shower afterward.
Anyhow, I had a roach problem at my old apartment also. I called the landlord and they came and fumigated. The problem is that a roach problem depends on many things. It could be the age of the building, it could be your neighbors. I too kept a clean apartment, almost spotless, but roaches can come in to any room or building through an opening the thickness of a dime (yes, that's pretty disgusting). Also, roaches come in through the drains. What I do is fumigate often and plug up the drains so the roaches can't come in. I also kill roaches immediately and clean up extra carefully. Sometimes what happens is that you kill a roach that happens to have roach eggs, and when you kill the roach, the eggs get disbursed throughout the room (yes, disgusting). Also, I've heard that roaches usually live between the walls and are only entering rooms when it is overcrowded between the walls. So if you see one roach, that means there are about several hundred others you can't see between your walls. Other than that, there isn't much else you can do.

yes you must absolutely "bomb"the house.small coackroaches are born in your house, the big ones
come from outside.
it's no big deal you call in specialists like from Bayer
and they'll bomb everywhere even in the fridge
and all the closets and wardrobes.they'll give you the
instructions about what to do do with the food when to wash the floors again, and you'll get rid of your"Jurassic Park"
for at least two or three years.

Roaches can come into your house from the supermarket most times in a bag of potato's so don't be freaked. The best natural product to kill them is BORAX, its a laundry booster next to the laundry soaps. It will kill most six legged bugs, it will also kill plants so if you sprinkle it around your house watch them as well. Do a search for Borax it a great product and cheep too. $3.50 for 4.5 lbs

Pest Control Professional
A clean home has not a thing to do with it.
I have lived in a house and it had roaches, not just a few. I set off some poison bombs and when I returned, I had to use a SCOOP SHOVEL to get them out. There where piles of them.
This is an extreme case. But Roaches do multiply very fast. For every one you see, there are at least 100 more. Quick action and continued spraying around baseboards and dark areas. Edges are the usual route they use. They will get inside your electronics and any enclosed item. They like the dark. You may be getting spill over from another place. Roaches will feed on anything, even you. They will eat on books, paper, and food, etc.
They adapt to poisons, and learn to stay away from those areas. So, switch your poison often. Don't buy more than you can use at one time, then change brands. Fumigating with Bug Bombs is a great jump start. You must remove all foods and animals, fish, etc. Make sure the house is as tightly closed as possible. Read the directions and follow them.
Afterward you will need to wipe all surfaces, wash all dishes, etc. Any surface that you may come in contact with.
I would turn over my furniture to expose the underside, open all cabinets, and any doors, remove the toilet tank lid and lift the stool lid. Remove and wash all clothing and any boxed items will need to be opened, and examined, and wiped. When boxing things up, make sure to tape them closed, so there are no openings.
Seems like a lot of work. You could move, but the likelihood of you taking some eggs with you, would be very good.
I also used Talc mixed with Sulfur, around the baseboards and inside furniture. Mothballs will work as well, but smell bad.
Hope this helps.
