How do you get white clothes really white? Use bleach?
Situation is I have this white sweater from Garage, it’s not entirly white though it has multiple blue and green stripes on the sweater but cuffs and base is white. I want to bleach the sweater so the cuffs become white and look cleaner becuase as you all know white gets dirty real easy.
But if I bleach the white, wouldn’t the colors bleed and then my sweater would be ruined? And the sweater is 40 dollars..I really do not want to have to throw it away since it’s pretty new.. Please help, I need home remedies, anything that will whiten the white on my sweater but keep the colors vibrante.
I can’t ask my mom cuase she has no clue how to clean whites..
the cuffs of my sweaters and hoodies always get grungy. Try using a spot treatment like shout or something. If that doesn’t work you could try oxy clean. You might even try color safe bleach or a detergent with bleach alliterative. Those multi-colored clothes are always harder to clean. Your right though. Straight bleach would ruin the other colors.

put a bottle of coke in the washer makes your cloths really white i do that to all my white cloths

A lot depends on the material and the dyes that were used. Read the washing instructions on the label in the sweater. If it is wool yarn, then use a cold water Woolite type cleaner and hand wash the item. Other materials may need other cleaners, maybe a bleach and hand wash just the cuffs and neck, then rinse twice and then wash the whole item. Read the labels first.

If I were you, I would try first washing it with “Cascade with Bleach” first. I’m not crazy, yes, I’m talking about dish washing machine detergent. It’s wonderful for white laundry. It handles the oily spots because it’s specially made to remove grease from the dishes; it doesn’t make much suds so the dish washing machines wont overflow; and it has a great bleach alternative that whitens like nothing else. Try wetting the cuffs and applying the liquid in the area as a “soaking agent”, leave it for some 15 to 20 minutes and then set the washing to the lowest level of water, hot water and pour 1/4 cup of dish washing detergent.
Believe me, my son works as server in a restaurant and he brings all kind of stains on his white shirts, but the dish washing detergent takes care of them without much problem for me.
Good luck!

~~Use hydrogen peroxide in the bleach dispenser of your washing machine just like you do bleach. Then launder as usual. The white will be white, but you won’t damage the colored part.~~

Wash it with Arm and Hammer laundry detergent (I only ever use the powder, don’t know why it works better, it just does) and add a dose of oxy clean to the water. Use a temprature as hot as the label on the sweater allows. It might not get it bright white again straight away, but every wash like this will improve it a little until it looks great again.
On no account use bleach, no matter what it says about being colour safe, it never leaves the colours as they should be and might not even get the white right.
