I'm moving from Toronto,Ont to Quebec any Recommendations?
Hi there i’m currently living in Toronto, Ontario and i want to move to Quebec city. I was wondering if anyone knew any jobs that are English speaking only. Maybe cleaning/maid services? Call centers? Anything. I am also trying to apply for social assistance (welfare) just to help me get started. Does anyone know of any community housing maybe. Im not sure how to go about in this. Im looking for a fresh start in life, i know a little french and I am reading books and audio CD’s to make my french stronger. Its just myself and my cat. Any advice will help thanks for looking

you’re better off in Montreal, more of a billingual city. Lots of general labour jobs around too. You will not get far in Quebec city without french.

Both Quebec City and Montreal are the two towns in Quebec that probably have the highest concentration of people who can speak English. However, Quebec City is a histroical town and the reason people come there is for the language and culture.
If you speak only English, you will have a terrible time trying to get a job in Quebec City, as most hotels and businesses would expect their staff to be fully bilingual. The only thing you may find is something that keeps you well out of the public eye.
In Montreal, you stand a much better chance to get a job in a company that does not require bilingualism, such as a call center or clerical work. You also are more likely to find affordable housing in Montreal, such as a small place in the Verdun or Cote St. Paul areas.
And taking French courses would definitley help your chances, both in Quebec and in Ontario. Many places in Ontario have to deal with Quebec clients or companies, and being able to communicate helps you there. You could look at a place in Ottawa area for example, if nothing comes up in Quebec City.

You’ll definitely need to learn French if you’re hoping to get a job in Quebec City. You can get away with it in Montreal as there are jobs that won’t require you to speak French (sadly…). But that is pretty much the only reason why you should choose Montreal over Quebec City.
Otherwise Quebec City is pretty much the most economically dynamic city in Quebec right now, it fares better than Montreal on all levels (lowest unemployment rate, housing is booming, second-ranked in North America for high technology and insurance, lowest vacancy rate in the country, lowest housing costs according to income, part of the top five safest cities in Canada).
